¨ is the ability to emotionally understand and share the feelings of others from their situations and point of view. And in the Waldorf Education in π³Forest Houseπ³, we are applying it in our teaching methods, curriculum, and teacher-student relationship to nourish the human sensation and warmth in our school culture. Let us share an anecdote about our daily school life.
On a morning a few weeks ago, with a few showers and sunny intervals, our children and teachers rehearsed outdoors for our Eurythmy sharingππ»πΊπΌπ³. Meanwhile, one class of children always felt unsatisfied with their performances, and so our teacher repeatedly practised with them until one of the classmates burst into tears.π The whole class stopped and went up to support him, wondering what had happened. It turned out that the child stepped on the dog poop.πΆπ© Our teacher then stepped forward and placed his hand on his shoulders to comfort and encourage him at a similar eye level. With the encouragement and companionship, he moved the children and encouraged them to persist with empathy. With the encouragement of all classes and teachers, everyone turned out to perform the best rehearsal in the rain! This touching outdoor rehearsal was captured by us. ππ
Waldorf education encourages children to look at things with empathy. And we believe that if it could be reflected in the teaching process and fully blended in with our campus culture and teacher-student relationships, children can experience and understand the warmth and power of empathy and its importance nowadays. Therefore, no matter the weather, every day could be a fruitful learning experience for children.π±π±
